The Waves That We Give
Thoughts around my continuous dreams of elemental healing for our community.
ground, plant, nurture,
don’t forget you too are earth.
consciously breathe in, consciously breathe out,
don’t forget you too are air.
tend, ignite, reignite, fan,
don’t forget you too are fire.
move and adapt, extend life,
don’t forget you too are water.
connect, create, thank,
don’t forget you too are spirit.
We have five different elements: earth, water, mineral, fire and nature. The element earth is responsible for our groundedness, our sense of identity, and our ability to nurture and to support one another. Water is peace, focus, wisdom and reconciliation. Mineral helps us to remember our purpose and gives us the means to communicate and to make sense out of what others are saying. Fire is about dreaming, keeping our connection to the self and ancestors and keeping our visions alive. Nature helps us to be our true self, to go through major changes and life-threatening situations. It brings magic and laughter.

The cure for anything is salt water - tears, sweat, or the sea.

I sit deeply in the call of space for elemental healing for the Black community.
I think often about the timeline of our relationship with the elements in the Motherland to now.
From mother Yemayá, who birthed the waterways.
Her womb-full– rockin' us each, in a mix of saltwater, honey, and milk.
Nurturing us pearls, before we knew ourselves.
But there are those who choose to forget that water is life -
That wherever there is water there is life.
Picking and choosing where they see souls.
Building for self. Elemental molding for control.
Weaponizing fire, earth, air, metal, and water.
Leaving ripples and waves of poison in their wake.
Do you Ancestrally hear the calls of our first home?
Healing and hope that holds as we wade in the water.
Memories returned in the cosmic river.
Selves, communities, environments - in balance.
Come,
Play,
Glide,
Dive,
Kick,
Leap.
Come lay. Come dance. Come Mold. Come float.
Come breathe.
Are you ready to return home?
You know, they straightened out the Mississippi River in places, to make room for houses and livable acreage. Occasionally the river floods these places. "Floods" is the word they use, but in fact it is not flooding; it is remembering. Remembering where it used to be. All water has a perfect memory and is forever trying to get back to where it was. Writers are like that: remembering where we were, that valley we ran through, what the banks were like, the light that was there and the route back to our original place. It is emotional memory--what the nerves and the skin remember as well as how it appeared. And a rush of imagination is our "flooding.

We are remembered in community.
