CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Decolonizing Adoption 2024 - Adoption & Creative Resistance Programming
Call for Submissions for speaking/performing/workshopping at the Decolonizing Adoption 2024 - Adoption & Creative Resistance (November 15-17)
From cribs and classrooms to school to prison pipelines, kids are some of the most unfree folks in our world. That truth rings even louder when we turn our gaze to adoptees across colors and cultures. As reproductive sovereignty buckles under the weight of pink patriarchy and pro birth politics, adoption, especially transracial and transnational adoption, is becoming a pillar for a reformed segregationist politic that separates families and displaces our youngest relatives through war, climate change, apartheid, poverty, environmental racism, and religious imperialism.
But, as Toni Morrison told us, the darkest times are “when artists get to work.”
As we prepare for our next season of #DecolonizingAdoption, we invite adoptees of all colors and creative leanings to join us in a collaborative, community program to infuse creative resistance into adoption, fostercare, and reunion spaces. From full spectrum birthwork and ancestral alchemy to spoken word poetry and children’s books, this garden space is welcome to all adoptees looking to reimagine their world and wonders through art, activism, and the ancestral power of creativity and community.
🎨 The purpose of this digital project is to build a network of adoptee-artists, writers, poets, podcasters, essayists, crafters, illustrators, and makers who are interested in presenting workshops, lessons or performances that weave activism into their art.
🌸 We hope to raise up presenters who are themselves adoptees or fostercare (audience members of all backgrounds are welcome to attend the November series).
🗓️ The deadline to submit program ideas is September 6th
